Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation should soon offer us a 5th episode of the “Shrek” saga! Eddie Murphy, voice of Donkey, gave some good news on this subject and also gave us a revelation that will delight fans!

Cult saga, Shrek delighted millions of spectators with 4 episodes between 2001 and 2010. If we include the two Puss in Boots spin-offs, the franchise has earned 4 billion dollars internationally. On the French side, the 6 films attracted a combined 25 million fans.

Shrek 5 in the pipeline!

14 years after Shrek 4, Eddie Murphy, who lends his voice to Donkey, finally gives good news regarding a 5th opus. Asked by Colliderthe 63-year-old actor mentioned a probable release date in 2025.

“We started working on Shrek 5 many months ago. I recorded the first act and we will finish the film this year.”, revealed the actor. The latter then made a revelation that will delight aficionados of the saga!

“Shrek 5 should be released in 2025 and then we will make a Donkey movie, revealed Eddie Murphy, confirming that a spin-off on his character would indeed see the light of day. Exuberant but endearing, Donkey sometimes stole the show from the green ogre, generating remarkable enthusiasm among fans. It is therefore logical that a feature film centered on him should be started.

L’Âne is back !

In 2023, at the microphone ofEntertainment TonightEddie Murphy was already campaigning to have a work dedicated to his cult character.I love Donkey. You know, they made Puss in Boots movies. I said to myself: ‘They should have made a film about Donkey, he’s funnier than Puss in Boots. I love Puss in Boots, but he’s not as funny as Donkey.”he declared.

After the 5th part of Shrek in 2025, we will be entitled to a spin-off on Donkey, extending the Shrek Cinematic Universe. However, although the news is excellent, French fans will have a pang in their hearts.

Indeed, the Donkey is inseparable from Eddie Murphy in the original version, but it is also in VF thanks to the voice of the late Med Hondo, who died in 2019. Without the particular timbre of the famous actor, the Donkey of Shrek will undoubtedly no longer have the same flavor or the same fun in the French version.

Voix Ouf, the AlloCiné program dedicated to dubbing, paid tribute to Med Hondo in a special issue that you can listen to using the link above. Note that Alain Chabat and Barbara Tissier will surely be back to lend their voices to Shrek and Fiona.
