Marvel is in the dark. After the departure of Jonathan Majors, sentenced to a year of therapy for domestic violence, the superhero stable is struggling to unite around its biggest projects. The absence of the main antagonist pushes Kevin Feige’s company to review its plans for the future, and therefore to delay the start of the next Marvel superhero meeting.
In November 2023, Daniel Destin Cretton gave up Avengers : The Kang Dynasty to concentrate on other projects, the film has since not found a new director. If Disney has not officially postponed the release of this fifth part of the Avengers saga, to April 2026, things seemed to be at a standstill for a few months. According to the latest rumors – which have yet to be confirmed, but which come from the very serious The Hollywood Reporter — Shawn Levy would have been offered the huge project. Who to carry Avengers 5?
No actor has yet been made official in the distribution, but a return of the old ones is obviously to be expected. The participation of the majority of them nevertheless remains hypothetical, all except Benedict Cumberbatch who has just given an interview to Still Watching Netflix. As he looked back on his career, the British actor was obviously invited to talk about Doctor Strange. Without going into details, Cumberbatch explains that he has a special relationship with Marvel Studios and “Looking forward to Avengers next year. They are preparing a tidal wave.”

The interpreter of Stephen Strange does not specify which heroes will be alongside these, or even what awaits the spectators. As usual, the Maison des Idées cultivates mystery and the coming weeks could be an opportunity to formalize a number of new projects. Marvel could stop by San Diego Comic Con and get to the bottom of this. Note that numerous projects are currently in development, starting with a remake of Fantastic Four or the series Daredevil : Born Again. These are as many characters as Avengers 5 might want to exploit, just like superhero startups Miss Marvel, Kate Bishop and Riri Williams. The latest news is that the film could feature nearly 60 characters.
