In 1996, Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes left their mark on the minds of moviegoers in The English Patient by Anthony Minghella. Awarded the Oscar for Best Film, the cult feature film also earned Juliette Binoche the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Nearly thirty years after this performance, the iconic duo is reunited on the big screen in The Returnan adaptation by Uberto Pasolini of The Odyssey of Homer; and of which a first trailer has just been revealed.
In theaters on December 6, this classic epic tells the story of the return to his land of Ulysses, played by Ralph Fiennes, after twenty years of absence. But, his wife Pénélope, played by Juliette Binoche, is a prisoner in her own house, hunted by suitors convinced of the death of Ulysses? and wishing to marry him.
Long-time friends
On September 7, on the occasion of the preview of The Return during the Toronto International Film Festival, Juliette Binoche told the Hollywood Reporter his joy at having found Ralph Fiennes on the screen. “We have remained friends all these years,” she said. “Juliette is like a compass for me. She has an extraordinary depth and understanding of what it means to play comedy,” declared Ralph Fiennes, assuring that playing the husband of the French actress was “obvious” for him.
Note that in 1992, four years before the success of English patientthe two actors already played a couple in an adaptation of Wuthering Heights Emily Brontë.
