HASattend a very short film festival on Instagram? This is possible thanks to 1minute2short. For its fifth edition, the event created by Héloïse Caretto, Camille Gardereau, Romain Poli and Baptiste Brégeaud received more than two hundred works from amateur videographers, professionals, film school students, high school students… This year, the films had to evoke the theme of secrecy and not exceed one minute. If forty finalists were selected to win one of the nine prizes at stake, ranging from cinema tickets to a grant to help create the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images (CNC) worth 3,000 euros, all of the two hundred and forty-six short films that competed are available on the festival’s Instagram page. To help you see more clearly, we have selected our ten favorite works.

Dream party

With no other dialogue than the interplay of gazes and the musical ambiance, this film, straight out of the 1980s, has an old-fashioned charm. We find ourselves letting it unfold in a loop.

By Fabien Le Mouël and Florian Velasco. Movie number 224.

Tradwife Filter

1minute2short

Being a perfect wife, a caring mother and living in a stylish home is possible. Particularly thanks to a few tricks… A short worthy of an episode of Black Mirror.

CAP

1minute2short

Cap or not cap? A seemingly harmless child’s game. Except in this short which, in a few dialogues, provokes the same intensity as a dramatic feature film.

Passion for food

1minute2short

When fantasy exceeds reality, it can lead to frankly funny situations. We’ll let you discover, but the word “sausage” has never been so hilarious.

Super 8

1minute2short

It’s not the film with the most slick aesthetics, since it mainly consists of crudely edited Super 8 camera images, but it’s certainly the one whose narration grabbed our guts the most.

By Joseph Galloni d’Istria and Camille Bourachot. Movie number 178.

Secret garden

1minute2short

Several selected shorts are entitled Secret Garden”, but our heart leans towards nᵒ 173. Poetic and melancholy, this mini-film which takes the expression literally is enhanced by shimmering colorimetry.

In flag, the animal!

1minute2short

If Minou the cat keeps urinating on the sofa, it’s because he’s keeping a terrible secret. Is his mistress ready to hear it? Some might risk leaving feathers there. Or hairs…

Coded.

1minute2short

What was the name of your first dog? Your favorite subject at school? Ironically, we often forget the information used to recover a forgotten password. But in one call everything can be resolved… or not! A dynamic and hilarious film.

By Morgane Goaziou and Romain Daitré. Movie number 132.

The Song of Shadows

1minute2short

A remake of Little Red Riding Hoode produced with a professionalism that has nothing to envy of major productions. Only, here, the moral deviates somewhat from that of Perrault’s tale.

The Agency

1minute2short

The Intervention Brigade against Disclosure (BICD) ensures that no secrets are revealed. At least, almost none. The brilliance of this short? Vary genres and make us feel a myriad of emotions in just one minute.
