Marvel, DC… Russell Crowe rants against actors who criticize superhero films

Russell Crowe is a little fed up with actors criticizing superhero movies after starring in them.

While Russell Crowe admitted to being jealous of not being in Gladiator 2, the New Zealand actor seems a little on edge at the moment. He who thrives in almost everything he does these days, notably exorcism films where they walk around with a cross in their hand, he seems slightly annoyed by the atmosphere which reigns around exorcism films. Super hero.

Indeed, the interpreter of Maximus found himself in front of Zack Snyder’s camera in recent years to play Superman’s biological father in Man of Steelin the role of Zeus with Thor: Love and Thunder by Taika Waititi and will soon appear in Kraven the Hunter for Sony. And in fact, Russell Crowe returned to these productions where he takes a lot of pleasure and has a little angry at certain criticisms of superhero filmsespecially when they come from actors and actresses who have played inside.

Russell Crowe ‘defends’ superhero films

Russell Crowe therefore discussed the production of superhero films in an interview with GQand he notably responded to Dakota Johnson’s statement on Madame Web :

“I don’t want to comment on what anyone else might have said or their experience, but… it brings out the teasing side of my humor [rires]. So you’re telling me that you agreed to star in a Marvel movie, in a fucking universe for cartoon characters… and that you didn’t have enough emotion? I’m not sure how I can make things better for you.

It’s a huge machine, and they make huge movies. And I experienced that on the DC side with Man of Steel, Zack Snyder, and I experienced it on the Marvel side via Disney with Thor: Love and Thunder. And I also discovered the darker Marvel universe with Kraven the Hunter. These are jobs. You are told: here is your role, play the role. If you’re expecting this to change and become some sort of event in your life, I just think you’re here for the wrong reasons. »

“Name of Zeus! »

He then wanted to explain his comments and try to understand Dakota Johnson’s reaction. Russell Crowe also gave his own thoughts on Marvel productions:

“It can be a challenge working in a blue screen studio, when you have to convince yourself of what’s beyond your character’s internal thoughts. But for anything else… And don’t make this a direct comment on her [Johnson] because I don’t know her and I don’t know what she went through, and it’s normal to sometimes have a shitty experience on set.

But is this Marvel’s process? I’m not sure you can say that. I didn’t have a bad experience. I mean [sur Thor]ok, it’s a Marvel movie, but it’s Taika Waititi’s world […]. And then, with JC Chandor on Kraven, I just bring a little weight to the circumstances, so that the young actors have someone they can bounce off of. »

Maximus after the events of Gladiator

Russell Crowe’s returns tend to somewhat calm the weariness and hatred of some towards superhero films. Everyone will have their own opinion on what the actor said, but for our part, we can find it in Kraven the Hunter, scheduled for December 18, 2024.
