OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Matthew Highmore to a one-year, two-way contract extension. The contract is worth $775,000 in the National Hockey League and $400,000 in the American Hockey League.

Highmore, 28, of Halifax, played with the Senators and Belleville Senators of the AHL in 2023-24, recording 31 points (nine goals, 21 assists) with the farm club in Belleville and two points (two assists) in seven games in Ottawa.

“Matthew is very familiar with our coaching staffs in Belleville and Ottawa,” said Staios. “He consistently brings energy, is a solid penalty killer and has shown great offensive skills in the AHL.”

Undrafted, Highmore played 146 NHL games over seven seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Senators, recording 12 goals and 17 assists for 19 points and 28 penalty minutes. He played nine NHL playoff games with Chicago in 2019-20 where he tied for third on the Blackhawks with three goals and four points.
