0:1 – FCH offers the “Red Bulls” a hot fight!

On Sunday afternoon, FCH welcomed RB Leipzig to the Voith Arena for the 6th Bundesliga matchday. Both teams remained scoreless in the first half before Lois Openda (59th) scored the golden goal of the day after just under an hour. FCH then created a few good chances, but were unable to reward themselves. In the end it was a narrow 0-1 defeat against the Champions League participants from Saxony.

FCH started the game well and could have taken the lead in the first minute through Patrick Mainka. After a corner, his attempt went just over. But Leipzig also had its first dangerous approach to the goal after four minutes. As a result, a balanced game developed in which Leipzig had a little more possession of the ball, but was unable to create a real chance to score. After 33 minutes, it was FCH’s Marvin Pieringer who suddenly had a free shot from the turn, but his shot was too central. In direct response, Sesko marched a few meters before narrowly missing the mark. Shortly before the break, Kevin Müller had to play after Xavi Simons (42nd) got through with a bit of luck in the penalty area and finished.

The second round started with excitement. David Raum took a free kick from the baseline into the center, where Sesko (42′) got free to head the ball and converted. Referee Stegemann initially gave the goal, but then corrected himself with the help of VAR because Willi Orban had stepped on FCH central defender Patrick Mainka’s foot. But RB stuck with it and took the lead after just under an hour. Nusa was able to play a through pass unchallenged and found Lois Openda (59′), who stayed ice cold in front of Kevin Müller and slotted in to make it 0-1.

As a result, FCH turned things around and had the next good opportunity with Patrick Mainka after a corner from Marnon Busch (61′). Six minutes later, Paul Wanner passed his 50-meter solo pass to Marvin Pieringer, whose cross failed to find the target. Just a minute later, Jan Schöppner tried from distance and hit the crossbar – the red-blue-whites demanded everything from the “Red Bulls”.

On the other hand, there was almost a copy of the 0-1: This time Haidara found Openda with a through pass, but he missed. It was going back and forth now. Substitute Léo Scienza found Benedikt Gimber’s head with his free kick, but it was denied by Gulacsi. After 73 minutes, the biggest chance for FCH came in the second half when Adrian Beck’s cross found Léo Scienza’s chest, Marvin Pieringer came out of the turn to finish and forced Gulacsi to make a world-class save. Gulacsi was also able to save Adrian Beck’s follow-up shot (73′).

Ten minutes before the end, the guests from Leipzig still had the chance to decide: Baumgartner passed through to Nusa, but his shot went wide of the goal. Four minutes later it was Openda who also almost made the preliminary decision, but his shot hit the post. FCH had the last chance of the game in stoppage time. Léo Scienza brought the ball into the penalty area, where things became confusing, but Patrick Mainka was ultimately denied again by the Leipzig keeper. The equalizer would not have been undeserved, but it remained 0-1.
