The publication of Victor Castanet’s book on lucrative private nurseries in general, and People & Baby in particular (see After ORPEA and nursing homes, the new target of Victor Castanet, People & Baby and private crèches) continues to provoke reactions from institutions (see CAF confirms the “multiple dysfunctions” of the People & Baby group) and from group itself (see At People & Baby, we recognize the accuracy of Victor Castanet’s “revelations” and we find a convenient scapegoat, the founder)

L’UNAFNational Union of Family Allowances, publishes a press release in which it affirms “the legal, fiscal and regulatory framework on which lucrative private crèches rely favors abuses which impact the entire Early Childhood policy.

It precisely characterizes the lucrative management of crèches

In recent years, almost all of the creation of nursery places has been entrusted to lucrative companies. This massive share has deleterious consequences:

  • Increase in inequalities of access in the territories, lucrative private nurseries setting up mainly where their future clientele is “solvent”.
  • Capture of public funding by the commercial sector : According to Igas: “Public funding is more abundant for market managers (€13,484 per place) than for public managers (€12,580)” and associations.
  • Exorbitant out-of-pocket costs for familiessometimes €1,000 per month for a place in crèche.
  • Profitability logic to the detriment of the quality of care and the safety of children: According to Igas, the logic of profitability of lucrative private daycare centers leads to a cost optimization strategy which weighs on the quality of human supervision. A logic perfectly demonstrated in the book “Les Ogres”.

There is no doubt that with such findings, measures will be taken to reverse the trend.
