The Paralympic tournament has started ©IOC
We’re off again for a tour with the celebration of Olympism. Wheelchair basketball is well represented at these Paralympic Games. It is even the sport that can be considered to be at the origin of the Paralympic Games with a practice that dates back to just after the Second World War, for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.
Basic rules: Each player is categorized, with points, according to his handicap. The heavier the handicap, the lower the player’s score. These scores range from 1 pt to 4.5pts and the 5 players on the court must not exceed 14pts.
To avoid making a deal, the player must either pass, shoot, or dribble before making a third spin.
Unfortunately, the French women were unable to qualify for this Paralympic tournament.

Olympic runner-up China got a scare against Canada in a very enjoyable match to watch. With only 5 players, the Chinese made the difference at the end of the match, behind their leader Xuemei ZHANG (30pts at 14/22). The Canadians resisted with Kady DANDENEAU (28pts) and Rosalie LALONDE (18pts).
In the other match, Great Britain had no trouble getting rid of the Spanish. Robyn LOVE (16pts at 8/11 and 19 rebounds!) flying over the racket during his 38 minutes on the floor
