When Catherine Jaccoud rented her apartment in Scaër (Finistère) on July 23, she was far from imagining that she had actually entrusted the place to a great French celebrity. After a few minutes of conversation with the couple of vacationers, the Breton finally realized who was in front of her: Jean-Jacques Goldman and his wife Nathalie.
During an interview with Paris Match, this Thursday, August 29, Catherine returned to this event which marked her summer: “When I realized who it was, the emotion rose suddenly.”
In Brittany for the holidays, the couple stopped in Scaër, a small town of 5,000 inhabitants, located in the south-east of Finistère. Jean-Jacques and Nathalie Goldman’s host explained: “He was with his wife, on bikes. They travelled the greenway and stopped somewhere every day. This route goes from Concarneau to Roscoff. It’s an old railway that attracts a lot of people in the summer, a great route.”
“I wanted to confirm that he is this humble and friendly person”
The next day, once the two athletes had rested, Catherine Jaccoud came to meet them to collect the keys to the apartment. It was then that she realized that her tenant was none other than Jean-Jacques Goldman: “I didn’t imagine meeting him at all, so I didn’t have any particular reaction at first. It was then that the emotion came… I’m a big fan!”
Although he has never been fond of displaying his public life, since his departure from the music scene, Jean-Jacques Goldman has not changed his habits. One of the most discreet French celebrities, he only very exceptionally lends himself to the game of interviews. Endowing him, in the eyes of his fans, with an unfailing humility.

On her Instagram account, this Wednesday, August 28, the Breton woman recounted this extraordinary event. Her goal through this publication: “I wanted to confirm what is said about him. He is indeed this humble and kind character. For ten minutes we chatted, he showed nothing special. As if I was chatting with just anyone.”
Once the moment was immortalized by Nathalie Goldman, the couple got back on their bikes, heading for the rest of the greenway. For her part, Catherine Jaccoud slowly came down from her cloud: “My first instinct was to sit down (laughs), I tried to remember this exchange, trying to realize it little by little. I experienced it as a wonderful encounter.”
“When he left, I listened to his songs”
The Scaëroise is a fan from the very beginning: “I am the Jean-Jacques Goldman generation, I am 54 years old. In the 1980s, it was a phenomenon and it is still the case now.”
After her favorite singer was gone for good, Catherine listened to his music: “I know his discography so well… The one that particularly touches me is « At the end of my dreams.” But I also love all the songs he wrote for Celine Dion, her interpretation of them is magnificent. I could finally quote them all to you…”
