INSEE has published the demographics from censuses between 2016 and 2022, this Thursday, December 19, 2024. As of January 1, 2022, Sarthe had 566 130 habitants i.e. 15% of the population of the Pays de la Loire region.
In the department, the population remains stable compared to 2016. We take stock of the municipalities which gained or lost the most inhabitants between 2016 and 2022.
Which municipalities have experienced the most population variations?

The municipality of Thoiré-sous-Condensor has seen its population grow on average by 5.6% per year over the last six years, going from 86 to 119 inhabitants. Conversely, the commune of Panon saw its population decline on average by 3.2% per year, going from 40 to 33 inhabitants.

According to INSEE, the population has increased in four intermunicipalities: Le Mans Métropole (with 615 more inhabitants each year on average between 2016 and 2022), Maine Cœur de Sarthe, Sud Est Manceau and Le Gesnois Bilurien.
