FROM POISONING. IF YOU ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT, WELL, YOU’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. BUT SOME LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS ARE URGING YOU TO CHECK OUT SMALL BUSINESSES INSTEAD OF HEADING TO THE BIG BOX STORES. KCCI S MARCUS MCINTOSH SHOWS US THE BUSINESSES GETTING READY FOR A BUSY WEEK. WE ARE ON THE SQUARE IN WINTERSET. HERE, SMALL TOWN BUSINESSES ARE READY FOR THOSE LAST MINUTE SHOPPERS, AND THEY ARE ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO COME DOWN AND PEOPLE ARE COMING TO CHECK THEM OUT. I’M JUST CHECKING OUT SOME OF THE SHOPS HERE. NEITHER JACOB NOR KYLIE EBNER LIVE NEAR WINTERSET. KYLIE IS LOOKING FOR A SPECIFIC SHOP AND JACOB TAGGED ALONG. BOTH SAY SHOPPING HERE FEELS LIKE HOME. IT FEELS VERY HOMEY AND COZY AND JUST. YEAH, VERY AMERICAN. TO BE ABLE TO WALK AROUND A SMALL TOWN AND KIND OF JUST SEE THE SIGHTS, EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT BUYING ANYTHING AT ANGEL WINGS AND SEAT. IT WAS A SLOW START TO THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON. I THINK PEOPLE ARE BEING SELECTIVE WITH THEIR PURCHASES AND THEIR DOLLARS WHEN THEY’RE SPENDING. FOR OWNER NICOLE CRAM’S, SALES ARE STARTING TO RING UP. IT’S BEEN REALLY PICKING UP FANTASTIC. KIM SAYS THINGS WILL GET BUSIER ON CHRISTMAS EVE. THAT IS WHEN SHE SEES A LOT OF GIFT CARD PURCHASES. THOSE GIFT CARDS GO RIGHT BACK INTO HER BUSINESS AT ANGEL WINGS AND CT AND OTHER SHOPS ON THE WINTERSET SQUARE. THEY TELL US THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE. ONE REASON CUSTOMERS COME BACK. YOU GET A BETTER EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU SHOP LOCAL AND YOU SHOP THE SMALL TOWNS. WHEN YOU GO TO THE BIGGER BOX STORES, YOU’RE JUST ANOTHER FACE. SHOP OWNERS SAY THE BEST PART OF SHOPPERS COMING TO THEIR SMALL TOWN BUSINESS IS THE MONEY SPENT HERE STAYS HERE IN WINTERSET. MARC
