A gendarme died this Friday in Mayotte where he was sent as reinforcement following the passage of Cyclone Chido on the archipelago.
Gendarmerie captain Florian Monnier died this Friday, December 20 in Mayotte. He had been present on the archipelago “since December 18 following the passage of Cyclone Chido”, indicates the Ministry of the Interior.
The events occurred this Friday “while he was leading an operational mission to restore communications networks in the Mount Combani sector in Mamoudzou.” During this operation, “he suddenly lost consciousness”, before being evacuated to the Mamoudzou hospital center, “where he succumbed to his discomfort.”
Aged 50, “Captain Florian Monnier had joined the general management of the gendarmerie a few months ago, returning from New Caledonia”, specifies the Ministry of the Interior in a press release.
“It had been planned in Mayotte to strengthen the relief and security system for the Mahorese population,” indicates the ministry.
By this Sunday, 1,200 internal security forces will be deployed in Mayotte in order to “secure the neighborhoods which today are sometimes the subject of looting and tension”, announced Emmanuel Macron this Thursday. The latest provisional report shows at least 35 deaths and 67 serious injuries.
