Another power play goal from Patrik Laine tipped the game in favor of the Montreal Canadiens, who won 4-3 on Friday night against the Red Wings in Detroit.
Laine's goal, his 7th with the Habs with a superiority of one or two men, was achieved with the help of a shell which pinned everyone to the spot at 12:02 of the last third period.
The Canadiens (13-16-3, 29 points) will therefore have the opportunity to sweep the doubleheader against the Red Wings (13-15-4, 30 points) who will be at the Bell Center on Saturday evening.
Emil Heineman (7th), Jake Evans (6th) – shorthanded – and Arber Xhekaj (1st) scored the other goals for the winners. Heineman and Evans added assists, as did Lane Hutson who had a tough game, with two of his errors leading to Red Wings goals.
For the first time this season, Martin St-Louis' men fired at least 30 shots (33) towards the opposing net. Samuel Montembeault stopped 25 pucks.
Patrik Kane (5th), Joe Veleno (3rd) and Tyler Motte (2nd) fought back for the Red Wings. Cam Talbot faced 33 shots.
Heineman's 7th goal
The Canadiens players came up against a Cam Talbot visibly in good form, until a lively shot from Emil Heineman surprised the Red Wings goaltender who saw the puck pass between his pads at 7:09.
