The repetition of facts questions as much as it worries elected officials in the sector. In the space of fifteen days, gas bottles were found in two household waste bins located in the communes of Mauvaisin and Gibel, only about fifteen kilometers apart.
A double discovery which pushed the mayor of this second commune, Jean-Pierre Bombailto alert and call for vigilance the elected officials of the Terres du Lauragais community council, meeting Tuesday, December 17 in Calmont.
There was still gas inside
” It is a 13 kg bottle which was found among household waste. And there was the same thing in Mauvaisin a few days before. I am warning you to be careful, because there was still gas inside and that it could have been dangerous for the transporter, but also at the time of processing because it all goes to the incinerator,” worried the elected official.
Asked by Voice of Midi Lauragais, Jean-Jacques Ramadethe vice-president of Terres du Lauragais in charge of the Environment, confirms the facts. “Each time, it was residents who saw these bottles when they were going to throw away their waste and who warned us. They were forced through because the space for throwing out trash is barely smaller,” he explains.
A malicious act?
The elected official from Villefranche-de-Lauragais indicates that a complaint was filed with the police. “The fact that this is happening again in two municipalities, in the space of two weeks, still worries us a little. We don’t know what the person’s intentions are. We can imagine everything. We wouldn’t want it to be someone malicious or deranged, who decided to make a splash. And then they are not empty, so it could be dangerous for the agent who would have it in the truck if it was collected with household waste,” he worries.
The vice-president of Terres du Lauragais is all the more taken aback by these facts, as it is the first time that they have occurred. “Six months ago we found fire extinguishers in terminals in Lux and Montgaillard-Lauragais. We had already filed a complaint. But never gas bottles,” he says.
He calls for vigilance among those administered
Given the repetition of these facts, Jean-Jacques Ramade calls on those administered in the sector not to hesitate to be vigilant when throwing away their trash. “We know that some residents are already keeping a close eye on what is thrown away. We sometimes get reports when there are things that should not be within the limits. But there, perhaps it would be nice if even more people would sometimes take a look following these two facts,” he notes.
