Tour de France 2023. We explain how to get around Bordeaux on Friday July 7

With the arrival of the Tour de , traffic will be very complicated in and the metropolis from Thursday evening. Closed lanes, stopped trams, complicated access to the station… We take stock of the situation.

All about:
global Marseillaise petanque

They will be there in two days. Bordeaux can be proud, once again, of hosting a stage of the Tour de France 2023. Girondin lovers of the little queen therefore have an appointment on Friday July 7, for the finish of the 7ᵉ stage between Mont-de- Marsan and Bordeaux. The Tour caravan is expected in the city from 3:30 p.m., the first runners should arrive around 5 p.m.
The city had not hosted a stage of the tour since 2010 and the triumphant arrival of Mark Cavendish on the quays.

Beyond the sport and the spectacle, the organization of the event involves numerous traffic disruptions, all along the route, and this, sometimes as early as Thursday evening. It is therefore better to organize in advance.

Closed roads

“From the evening of July 6, many traffic lanes will be closed”, warns Bordeaux Métropole. All lanes used by the runners will be closed to traffic, both pedestrians and cars.
Traffic will therefore be prohibited along the quays, left bank and right bank, but also in several arteries in the city center, around the Place des Quinconces in particular. On the eastern ring road, exits 22 towards Floirac and Latresne will be closed from noon on Friday.
More generally, traffic inside the boulevards will be very complicated from Thursday evening July 6, from Bacalan to Floirac. The Saint-Jean bridge will be closed, including for bicycles and pedestrians, until Friday evening at 9 p.m. Diversions are recommended via the boulevards.

Be careful if you decide to leave the car, do not park just anywhere. Parking will also be prohibited.on the entire route taken by the Tour de France, from the quai de la Souys in Bouliac, Floirac to the quai des Chartrons (at the level of the course of the Médoc), passing by the Saint-Jean bridge”, specifies Bordeaux metropolis. Any offending vehicle will be immediately towed.

Trams and buses interrupted

Public transport will be particularly disrupted. “Tram interruptions and bus diversions are planned”warns TBM, which invites its users to “anticipate their journeys“, at least until July 8.
Regarding the tram, only line A will have normal traffic. Line B will be interrupted between the Berges de la Garonne and Quinconces stops. Line C will be between Quinconces and Gare Saint-Jean, line D will not run between Quinconces and Carles Vernet.
On all these lines, relay buses with diversions are planned. Most trips will therefore be possible, but will take longer, so it is better to plan ahead in your timing. Details on the frequency and route of these buses are available on the TBM website.

Regarding buses, many lines will also be diverted and many stops not served. Details can also be found on the TBM website.

And to go to the station, how do we do it?

This 7ᵉ stage passes through Bordeaux on the evening of the school holidays. And this Friday, July 7 will also rhyme with the evening of the big departure. Lines C and D of the tramway do not serve Bordeaux Saint-Jean, so organization must be in order.
Coming from Ravezies, Barrière du Médoc, Barrière Saint Genès or Stade Chaban Delmas, take line 9.
From the Town Hall, a relay bus will be set up at the Palais de Justice stop.
From Stalingrad, it is recommended to continue to the Palais de Justice, then board a relay bus.
