Shortly after midnight, two Garda cash couriers went to deposit money at a Caisse Desjardins counter, near Samson Boulevard and Highway 13.
Except that when the Garda agent left his truck to drop off the bag of money, a suspect who was waiting near the scene opened fire in his direction.
The two Garda officers then responded vigorously to the shots, forcing the suspect to flee in an unknown direction.
No injuries were reported during the shooting, said Laval Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Beshara.
The attempted theft of money therefore failed, but the jitters caused by the exchange of gunfire did not allow the conveyors to deposit the money at the Desjardins counter.
A security perimeter has been erected on site to protect the scene while waiting for crime scene technicians and investigators who will have to unravel this story.
