Thanks to this victory, Switzerland finished the main round in 3rd place, which means a final ranking between 9th and 12th place. Before the match against Italy, the Swiss no longer had any chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

What the Swiss accomplished during this World Cup is remarkable, especially since they were missing their main attacker Manuel Zehnder, who was injured. They only conceded two losses against the Olympic finalists, Germany (31-29) and Denmark (39-28).

Faced with Italians who seemed tired, the Swiss once again showed serenity with a solid defense. Although the Swiss were convincing collectively, Lenny Rubin deserves the quote. The 2.05m giant scored nine goals to bring his total to 40 goals in this world championship. Luka Maros scored seven goals against Italy and the astonishing Dimitrij Küttel planted five. Goalkeeper Nikola Portner blocked all three Italian penalties in the first half.
