Dry January: Paris is organizing the first competition for the best mocktail!

We don't know you, but this yearwe have the impression that everyone around us has decided to try their hand at the famous Dry January. Want to test the experience, to take a real break afterwards the excess of the holidaysto see if reducing alcohol consumption would have positive effects on the body and mind… The reasons are diverse and all more praiseworthy each other. This year, the City of is mobilizing for alcohol-free month and organizing the very first edition of best mocktail competition (non-alcoholic cocktail). The appointment is given on Monday January 27, 2025 from 3:30 p.m., rue de Rivoli.

Personalities who are members of the jury

It is therefore at the end of this new edition of Dry January — initiative created in 2013 in the United Kingdom — that the “Alcohol-free bet(s)” will take place. Students or bartenders and barmaids from different establishments in Paris are invited to create the best non-alcoholic cocktail of the capital. The concocted drinks will be judged by personalities such as content creators Camille & Justice or even Bernard Bassetpresident of Addiction .

Alcohol among the leading causes of death in France

From year to year, the Dry January stands out as an initiative that appeals to an ever-widening audience. In 2024, a Panel Selvitys1 survey showed that 5.1 million French people had participated in the month without alcohol. Between 2021 and 2022, there were twice as many registered on dryjanuary.fr. Currently, alcohol is responsible for approximately 41,000 deaths per year in France, and is one of the leading risk factors for premature death in 15-49 year olds on a global scale.

In the capital and its suburbs, many restaurants and bars entirely dedicated to alcohol-free or with an expanded range of non-alcoholic drinks have opened their doors in recent years: Ivy Cocktail Bar, Le Paon qui Boit, L'Alchimiste, Le Bisou, Déjà Bu?, Dinks&Co… Whether you are already a fan of alcohol-free or you decide to get started soon, you will be spoiled for choice!
