The event is intended to be ambitious. Looking to the future, it was designed with the aim of redefining the role of science and engineering in building a sustainable, ethical and innovative future.
It is with this in mind that the organizers of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Benguerir placed it under the motto “shaping the future”. For a week, starting February 17, all debates and exchanges will be oriented in such a way as to go beyond the boundaries of laboratory research to focus on the societal, environmental and ethical dimensions of the scientific enterprise.
Participants will all be invited to place their work in the general context of humanity’s needs so that current discoveries and technologies offer solutions to a better future. The issues are clear. “Such thinking requires scientists to critically examine not only what they produce, but also how their creations affect the well-being of people and the planet.” The initiators started from this questioning which will fuel and guide the debates throughout the dedicated week.
This synergy should be taken internationally to contribute to global debates in several areas… The organizers emphasize that “this change does not come only from the scientific disciplines themselves, but also from all cultures and all geographies”. The scientific week aims to be a crossroads where ideas from around the world come together in discussions, going beyond regional or disciplinary compartmentalizations. The discourse must be enriched by interactions between African, European, Asian or American perspectives allowing new solutions to take place. This implies that the program is based on international cooperation to tackle the problems of poverty and social exclusion. In short, through this event, the UM6P seeks to position itself as one of the nerve centers of global scientific production. Students, academics and professionals are therefore invited to actively participate in the process so that the science week ultimately becomes a dynamic and participatory platform. The platform should consolidate UM6P’s ambition to join the league of innovative universities around the world. Leaving a legacy of socially conscious, revolutionary and technically innovative scientific progress is the challenge that the university’s top management has set itself.
