Sales of the distributor of furniture and decorative objects, which has more than 4,000 employees in , have continued to decline since 2022.

The distributor of furniture and decorative objects Maisons du Monde announced on Thursday the elimination of 91 jobs in its and headquarters, “as a priority” via des “voluntary departures”but without excluding layoffs. The brand, which has more than 4,000 employees in France, is in difficulty and its sales have continued to decline between 2022 and the third quarter of 2024, in a context of generalized difficulties for the sector after a strong post-Covid rebound in 2021. He announced a transformation plan in March 2024 «Inspire everyday»including cost reductions of 85 million euros over three years, in the hope of returning to growth in «2025-2026».

The 91 positions eliminated will be distributed almost entirely between the Paris and Nantes headquarters, indicated the management of Maisons du Monde. No store in the group is affected. These deletions will be made by giving a “priority (…) to voluntary departures, including responsible measures negotiated with social partners”specified Maisons du monde in a press release. “There could ultimately be outright layoffs, in a few months, after the call for volunteers and reclassification procedures”added François-Melchior de Polignac, general director of Maisons du Monde. The company has around 760 employees in its headquarters, and just over 4,000 in France including the stores. It generates more than half of its sales in France. Maisons du Monde achieved sales over the first nine months of 2024 that were down more than 11% compared to the same period of 2023, at 704.7 million euros. Its turnover had already fallen by more than 9% in 2023 compared to 2022, to 1.13 billion euros.
