Postponed to February, then finally to March 20, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” was revealed during a long preview session with the press, which allowed the veil to be lifted on several new features long hoped for by fans.

It is difficult to miss the controversies which surrounded both the development and the pre-launch ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows. The new game from Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that created the franchise, has been talked about in everything but good ways, notably by revealing that one of its two playable characters would be a black samurai. An element which provoked the ire of the most radical players.

This controversy added to the failure of Star Wars Outlawswhose release was marred by technical problems, and a cruel lack of finish – a constant at Ubisoft for several years. The French publisher therefore made the decision to postpone Assassin’s Creed Shadows to February 14… before granting it a final postponement at the last minute, to March 20.

A revised exploration but which retains the clichés

To support the launch of pre-orders, Ubisoft invited creators and part of the specialized press for a very long preview session on the latest version of the game still in development. For almost six hours, they were able to get their hands on a title that was expected around the corner.

Car Assassin’s Creed Shadows carries on its shoulders the hope of seeing Ubisoft’s clichés in terms of open world disappear.

What is it really? For those who were hoping to see a kick in the anthill, they may be (a little) disappointed. Ubisoft has revised exploration, but that doesn’t stop icons from quickly swarming across the map. As IGN explains, it’s only when you reach the usual sync towers that they will start to appear, notably in the form of question marks.

This will make it possible to avoid knowing what is nearby in an area. However, the principle remains the same as in the rest of the saga. Assassin’s Creed: you still have to climb them. But to help you, as in Assassin’s Creed Syndicateyou benefit from a grappling hook if you control Naoe, the female heroine of this episode.

“The game fans have been waiting for for 15 years”

Moreover, Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers many additional activities, particularly to enhance your exploration of Japan. Training fields, animals to paint, pieces to play in rhythm or even altars to find… there seems to be plenty to do, specifies YouTuber Destin Legarie.

We also note the possibility of creating your own village and being able to manage it by customizing the buildings and what it is possible to do there.

In game, with Naoe or Yasuke, the games are not quite the same. The opinions thus specify that if the young woman will manage to remain discreet and will recall the first episodes, where infiltration was the key word, the black samurai will have a significant strike force for him so as not to need to hide.

Polygon headlines on the “excellence” of this next episode, particularly in its visual universe. Exclusively planned for the latest generation consoles, the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series (and, according to our information, on Nintendo Switch 2), Assassin’s Creed Shadows intends to offer artistic richness and realism a notch above previous opuses. “It seems to be the game Assassin’s Creed that the fans ofAssassin’s Creed have been demanding for at least 15 years,” writes the American media.

Will they be there? See you on March 20 to check it out.
