Firefighters from the Town of Amos Fire Department are battling a major fire at the Arbec Forest Products (formerly Forex) wood processing plant in Amos.
Emergency services were called just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to a fire that broke out at the factory that produces OSB panels.
Firefighters from all other fire departments in the MRC Abitibi territory were called in for reinforcements. Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec also provide assistance to firefighters.
From what I’m told, the fire is contained inside the factory. On the other hand, he would have climbed into the roof and that’s where he would be right now
explained Mayor Sébastien D’Astous, a little after 7 p.m.

The latter recalls that there are often fires in this factory, due to its process, but that this time, we are talking about a major fire. It is still too early to assess the extent of the damage, as firefighters are still fighting the destructive element.
-We want there to be as little damage as possible so that the factory can return to operation as quickly as possible and that there are no injuries. Our hearts go out to the firefighters who are braving the cold and the fire
expressed Mayor D’Astous.
