An envelope of 392 million DH will be devoted to strengthening road safety in the Marrakech-Safi region. This plan, unveiled by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, last Friday, during the preparatory meeting for the 4th World Ministerial Conference on Road Safety scheduled for next February in Marrakech, will mobilize various stakeholders, including the Agency National Road Safety Authority (NARSA), the Wilaya of the region, the Municipal Council of Marrakech, and the external services of the ministry as well as other stakeholders concerned.
NARSA will contribute 125 million DH to this plan over the next two years, the minister said. These investments aim to treat black spots which are experiencing a concentration of traffic accidents in Marrakech, for a financial envelope estimated at 40 million DH, the strengthening of horizontal and vertical signaling and road traffic lights (88 million DH ), in addition to securing the perimeter of 52 educational establishments as part of the “Safe School” Project, amounting to 7 million DH, the strengthening of control operations through the coverage of road axes, recording high speed rates, through the installation of fixed and mobile radars (70 million DH).
The investment program also includes the strengthening of signaling and the installation of safety barriers in mountainous road sections and axes in the provinces of Chichaoua, Al Haouz and Essaouira, for 164 million DH, in addition to the strengthening of horizontal signaling and vertical in the entrances to the city of Marrakech and the most important roads leading to tourist resorts, for a financial envelope of 10 million DH. In order to reduce the duration of intervention for the relief of those injured in traffic accidents in the Marrakech-Safi region, NARSA will invest some 11.5 million DH within the framework of a special agreement with the General Directorate of Civil protection.
