For the launch of the campaign, Wednesday January 15, two young graduates of Stade Montois Rugby were vaccinated at the Plaine des jeux, one hour before their U14 training. The second dose will be administered to them on Sunday June 15 (between 15 and 19 years old, a third dose is necessary). Other Landes rugby clubs must follow the initiative.
As a reminder, a free vaccination campaign in middle schools, aimed at 5 year old studentsehas existed since September 2023.
During the first 2023-2024 edition, the ARS recorded 1,573 registrations in Landes colleges to receive the vaccine, including 993 boys and 580 girls. For this second 2024-2025 campaign, 1,330 registrations have already been recorded in the department. Éric Jalran, director of the Landes delegation of the ARS, hopes to “remake the same score, or even better”.
In addition to colleges
This new campaign in sports clubs aims to vaccinate young people who have missed out on the one organized in colleges. These may be students attending private school, or more reassured to receive the vaccine outside of school or in the presence of their parents. These various campaigns aim, among other things, to close the gap between girls and boys, who are all affected by the risks of cancer linked to human papillomavirus infections. In Landes, 58% of young girls are vaccinated compared to 47% of young boys.
The launch of the sports campaign took place in the presence of the MP and former Minister of Health Geneviève Darrieussecq, the general secretary and sub-prefect of the Mont-de-Marsan district Stéphanie Monteuil, and the general director of ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine Benoît Elleboode.
-The latter's desire: to eradicate HPV (human papillomavirus) as in Australia. which the director general of the ARS describes as “preventable diseases”. Benoît Elleboode congratulates Landes, the most efficient department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine in terms of vaccination against papillomavirus. “A mentality that must shine,” he assures, rejoicing at the deployment in sports clubs. And why not, tomorrow, in the cultural sector. »

The former Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for the first Landes constituency Geneviève Darrieussecq welcomes this as “a great, essential operation for young people”, stressing that “the clubs take care of young people in their entirety” and not only within the framework sporty. “Rugby is very important, but not only that,” agrees the co-president of Stade Montois Rugby Marie-Paule Bourdet.
