When he settled in 2013 in Gaec with his father, Cédric anticipates a little what he calls “the basic plan”. After a BTS plant production in Châteauroux, he imagined himself learning his skills outside before joining the family farm. But that was without taking into account the coincidences of life. “I was lucky. Neighbors who were going to retire without a successor came to see me because they wanted to pass it on to a young person”. The young man accepts the proposal. It takes over sixty hectares in large crops and a standard chicken coop. A production of which he knows nothing but of which he quickly learns the basics and measures the complementarity on his farm. “I managed to find a real synergy between the workshop large crops et bovins by increasing my food autonomy. On the poultry part, theintegration so the question does not arise about food. On the other hand, I add value to manure, which reduces the use of chemical fertilizers.”

“To anticipate, we need sufficient vaccines at the right time”

On the shutter sanitarywithout going so far as to mention synergies, Cedric Giraudet demonstrates good practices which may appear drastic at first glance, but which in recent years, with the surge in bird flu have contributed to preserving the poultry industry. “Being in standard production, the poultry in fact remained cloistered. On the other hand, we clearly felt the impact of all the biosecurity measures ». Measures, which he deplores in passing do not apply to non-professional breeders. The arrival of vaccine in October 2023 mandatory for all ducks has undoubtedly changed the situation in the management of the epizootic: “Of course, there are always occasional outbreaks, but we are not witnessing outbreaks as significant as in previous years which brought entire sectors to their knees in the South-West, in Vendée. There are European countries which do not vaccinate and they find themselves in very delicate situations.” For thebreederthe vaccine clearly prevented the large-scale spread of the disease. Based on this observation, and while the ruminant sectors are affected by epizootics of FCO et HONthe young farmer advocates for vaccination. Which, according to him, requires anticipation, “the entire sector, the researchers, the laboratories must provide the right vaccinesdoses in quantity and at the right time ». L’breeder has started vaccinating its cattle against FCO serotypes 3,4 and 8 and MHE.
