We are still a long way from it but the round of 16 played this Wednesday evening (6:30 p.m.) could allow Brittany to equal a record. If the four Breton teams involved (Stade Briochin, Stade Brestois, Stade Rennais and FC Lorient) join Guingamp, qualified for the next round after an interminable penalty shootout against Sochaux, there would then still be five Breton clubs in the round of 16. On paper, it is far from unthinkable even if the Briochins, who play in National 2, will once again have to achieve an exploit to eliminate Annecy, a Ligue 2 club.
A first since 2010?
This performance would then become historic in the Coupe de France! The first and only time this took place was during the 2009-2010 season when Guingamp, Stade Rennais, Stade Plabennecois, Vannes OC and Stade Brestois had then reached this stage of the competition. Despite everything, none of these teams managed to reach the quarterfinals at the time.
