Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, delivered a muscular press conference this Tuesday to deplore the unjustified attacks against the club in the Dani Olmo-Pau Victor affair. He attacked the media and his opponents within the club.
The decision of the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor on a precautionary basis has freed Joan Laporta from a huge burden. A little less than a week after the requalification of his two players, the president of Barça held a vitriolic press conference this Tuesday to defend his action but also to ignite his opponents and the media. The manager first detailed at length the work of the services to comply with the Spanish financial fair play regulations in order to validate the registration of the two players on December 31.
But a request for additional documents from La Liga and the Spanish Federation (RFEF) disrupted the plans and pushed the two institutions to invalidate their registration. He denounces actions aimed at “discrediting” Barça accompanied by “lies”.
“They positioned themselves on the side that wanted to harm us”
Laporta assures that the club has always been within its rights and says it has put together a solid case. He deplores an incriminating media campaign against him. “Different actors, with their respective media resources, have united to impose an ignominious story which has nothing to do with reality,” he lamented. He notably targeted certain members of the club who considered filing a motion of censure to request his departure before changing their mind.
“They had a golden opportunity to show that they love Barça and they didn't take advantage of it,” he said.
“They positioned themselves on the side that wanted to harm us, on the side of the hostile media. Now they are all coming back, in a hurry. And I tell them to be patient. They lost a golden opportunity to show that they love Barça. They sided with organizations that tried to destabilize them. Does anyone believe that I will resign because of a decision from La Liga or the RFEF? our skin You can. imagine it. I am very disappointed by the people who aspire to become president. It was not about being on the side of Laporta, but on the side of Barça.
“I greatly appreciate the strength shown by the players and the entire team in these moments of maximum suffering,” he adds. “We put up with everything, but the suffering that our players and our club had in general… fortunately, the majority of culés understood it, some destabilized us. It seemed like they wanted us see him fail. Poor Barça, if he falls into their hands I hope he never falls into their hands.
“They once again put their own interests before those of Barça”
Laporta also returned to his insults dropped before the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup after learning the news of the requalification of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. “I had contained euphoria,” he assures. “We had achieved something very difficult, against everyone and everything. And in the context of this contained euphoria, I had a reaction. And in no case did I insult anyone, nor punch foot to anyone, nor grabbed anyone by the neck I did not do that I was talking with the president of the RFEF who was to grant the licenses, but then we talked about it and everything was clarified. had a reaction and it's did. Tebas (La Liga president)? I don't want to point the finger at anyone. We are the great defenders of the rule of law.
