64 days 19 hours 22 minutes and 49 seconds
Here is precisely the time it took Charlie Dalin to complete the Vendée Globe race in first position. It thus becomes the fastest sailor in the history of the Vendée Globebeating the previous record by more than 9 days.
But that's not all! It is also the fastest to cover the distance between Ecuador and the famous Cape of Good Hope. The fastest, again, between Bonne-Espérance and Leeuwin. In short, Charlie Dalin is a champion! « I am the happiest man in the world » he said shortly after his arrival.
A sailing enthusiast since he was 6 years old
It was at this age that Charlie discovered the pleasure of sailing. He was then on vacation with his grandparents in Crozon, in Brittany, and did a sailing course. He thus learned to operate an Optimista small boat with one sail. His parents say that this internship is at the origin of his passion.
He began competing while in high school. Later, he studied naval architecture to learn how to make boats. Today, he is 40 years old, has a very sophisticated boat, and his eyes shine after the wonderful adventure he has just experienced!
A great opponent
Despite his achievements, Charlie was not always at the front of the race. His main competitor, who also seems to be a friend, is called Yoann Richomme. “It was incredible, this match with Yoann. It's thanks to him that we traveled around the world in such a short time! It pushed me to never give up! » Charlie explained when he arrived.
A few hours later, Yoann also crossed the finish line. The Vendée Globe may therefore be a solo race, but it does not prevent great friendships!
