Sampiero Coti, Fabien Alfonsi, Mathieu Mamberti and Paul-José Ettori were indicted on Monday January 13 for “criminal association” as part of the investigation into the assassination of Jean-Christophe Mocchi, business manager killed on June 24, 2022 in Propriano.
The information was confirmed to us by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) from Marseille, in charge of this affair.
The four men, aged 32 to 42, were placed in pre-trial detention, as was Joseph Mocchi. Indicted on January 9 for “organized gang murder” and “criminal conspiracy”, the latter had requested a deferred debate. His lawyer, Me Emmanuel Molina, denounced “the judicial harassment to which he is subject”.
During the custody of these five people, investigators became interested in the motive for the murder. The victim reportedly opposed a branch of his family over the relocation of a Carrefour hypermarket on undivided land. A testimony under X, corroborated by video surveillance cameras, would have made it possible to identify the route of the killer's vehicle.
For the advice of Sampiero Coti, Me Anne-Marie Leandri, “there are no serious and consistent indications which could justify placement in detention” of his client. And to add: “We will appeal this decision.”
Me Charlotte Cesari, who represents Fabien Alfonsi and Mathieu Mamberti, believes for her part that “the magistrates of the Jirs pronounced an unjust decision implicating citizens above all suspicion, integrated into society and serving the greatest number. […] The investigation of this file is accompanied by serious dysfunctions which we will highlight very soon.”
Me Gabriel PoggiPaul-José's lawyer Ettori, has not yet been able to be contacted.
In this file, seven people in total were arrested on January 6 in Sartenais-Valinco. Two of them were quickly released.
As a reminder, Jean-Christophe Mocchi was shot and killed while sitting on the terrace of a bar in Propriano on June 24, 2022.
Entrusted to the gendarmerie research section and managed by the Marseille Jirs, the investigation led to the placement in police custody of nine people from Sartenais-Valinco in May 2023. Two of them, Appien Coti and Théophile Mondoloni, were indicted for “premeditated murder” and “conspiracy of criminals in an organized gang with a view to committing a crime”. Two other people had been placed under the status of assisted witness.
