OM were eliminated from the Coupe de France after a penalty shootout which turned in favor of LOSC, with two failed attempts on the Marseille side. The goal of winning this Cup is falling through. there is reason to be disappointed, especially given the first period.
A goal everywhere at the end of regulation time after Haraldsson opened the scoring for Lille in the 68th minute. OM failed to convert too many situations and chances during the first 45 minutes. The Olympians may regret it…because the second period was not of the same level from Roberto De Zerbi’s men. The “Dogues” managed the ball better, and took advantage of the unusual technical errors of certain OM players.
But this match could have entered the legend of “great evenings for OM” with Luis Henrique’s exceptional equalizer with a powerful strike at the end of added time. At that moment we thought that the Olympians would be able to ride this dynamic to win the penalty shootout, but unfortunately the scenario “turned sour” for OM.
Luis Henrique and Jonathan Rowe missed their attempts, while Lille were full. Four converted penalties. Jeffrey De Lange, who started on the right side of LOSC’s first shots, was unable to do anything. Rulli’s shadow still hangs over the Vélodrome, and OM will not win this Coupe de France which has eluded them since 1989.
The rest of the season will come down to the simple French championship, with Ligue 1 in which the Marseillais have a big game to play to at least try to keep their second place. But OM will only play one match per week until the end of the season, and that too is not very good news.
