Layla Dris Hach-Mohamed, originally from Melilla, officially took office on Thursday as chief provincial commissioner of the National Police in Jaén. There are only four women occupying this position in Spain, but Layla’s Moroccan origin and Muslim religion have triggered attacks on social networks to the point of talking about “ethnic replacement” in Spain.

During the inauguration ceremony, chaired by the delegate of the Spanish government in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, and the senior official of the CNP in Eastern Andalusia, Luis Jesús Esteban Lezáun, she spoke of the challenges linked to improving security in the province.

She praised the warm welcome from the people of Jaén, expressing her gratitude and ambition to meet expectations by working “with proximity, empathy and deep respect”.

“You are and always will be the center of our work. I am committed to leading this institution with dedication and humanity, to working with passion to guarantee your safety and well-being, and to always being available to support you.”

Although she acknowledged that “total security is impossible,” Layla Dris Hach-Mohamed stressed that Jaén is a calm province with high security levels, while calling for continued efforts to strengthen them further. It will have 550 agents under its responsibility.

His career, marked by key positions, illustrates a wealth of experience. In service since 1995, she has headed several police stations, notably in Granada and the Canary Islands, and has held strategic positions as head of the Operations Coordination Unit in Jaén. She also served as head of the Spanish contingent during a United Nations peace mission in Haiti and internal attaché at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, responsibilities for which she was distinguished by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
