Saly, Jan 11 (APS) – Health Director Ousmane Cissé declared that Senegal is currently “better equipped” than in 2023, to deal with exceptional health situations, having obtained scores greater than or equal to the WHO recommendations relating to the 19 indicators of the International Health Regulations (IHR).
”Compared to 2023, we are currently better equipped to respond to health situations,” Ousmane Cissé said on Friday in Saly (West).
The Director of Health at the Ministry of Health and Social Action chaired the closing ceremony of a multisectoral annual assessment workshop on the progress of the International Health Regulations (IHR), according to the e-SPAR tool in Senegal.
This meeting took place from Monday to Friday, with the participation of various health stakeholders.
The e-SPAR tool has 15 capabilities and approximately 35 indicators, including 15 of the 19 contained in the International Health Regulations.
”There is progress, to the extent that the WHO recommends having at least score 3 [ sur une note variant de 1 à 5] and we have two indicators of level 5, and 6 of level 4 and about 11 of level 3,” the official said.
-Mr. Cissé welcomed ”the progress that has been made on all the elements appreciated”, however, he specifies that there remains ”other progress to be made so that there is no no more level 2 or even 3” indicators.
”There are prospects, with an action plan to boost the indicators which are at level 1 and 2 especially at level 3 so that at the 2026 evaluation we have fewer level 1 and 2 indicators ”, he informed.
