Caregivers violently attacked in the middle of a hospital. Twelve staff at the Pays de Savoie private clinic in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie) were attacked on Wednesday evening by two men, including a patient who came for treatment, Le Parisien learned from a police source. Several victims have filed complaints, and the attackers are on the run.
The police were alerted around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday. A man went to the Pays de Savoie Private Hospital for treatment, accompanied by his brother. But the latter wanted to stay alongside the patient during treatment, which was refused, according to the police source. He then attacked a nurse, then several other caregivers who were running to help their colleague. His brother also took part in the violence.
In total, 12 staff were attacked. Four of the victims filed a complaint shortly after, and the others planned to do so later, the police source said. The two brothers, aged 24 and 33 and unknown to the criminal record process (TAJ), fled by car even before the police arrived on site.
Six of the attacked personnel were injured, according to Le Dauphiné Libéré, which specifies that the emergency medical team was celebrating Christmas in a nearby room at the time of the attack and intervened by trying to intervene, before succeeding in remove the two violent individuals from the service. Among the fourteen personnel involved, “all in a state of psychological shock”, six suffered from “facial swelling” and for some of them “from a cracked rib, trauma to an ankle or a fracture with one hand. The day after this outbreak of violence, the clinic’s medical staff decided to exercise their right of withdrawal this Thursday, leading to the closure of the emergency room. Management indicated that the service would remain closed until Monday morning. “The service staff are in a real state of psychological shock,” underlined a spokesperson for the establishment, confirming information from the regional daily Le Dauphiné Libéré.
