Rise in Fob rapeseed prices, fall on Euronext

THE rapeseed price evolved in contrasting ways between December 23 and January 7. On the one hand, prices lost ground on the Euronext futures market while FOB Moselle prices tended to increase. On the side of Canadian canolaproduction prospects continue to disappoint and export competition promises to be tough with Australia. Finally, the Ukrainian rapeseed exports seem dynamic.

River traffic disrupted on the Moselle

On Le Mériot in , there is no longer any activity on the deadlines from January to March. Following the damage to a lock in Müden in Germany, the Moselle saw its river traffic severely disrupted: navigation, however, remains open on the entire French and Luxembourg network and on part of the German network (up to Trier) while a return to service of the Müden lock is planned by the German navigation service WSA Moselle-Sarre-Lahn at the beginning of February 2025. All the boats who were stuck on the Moselle were able to leave the route managed by Voies navigables de France before the end of the year, the operator specifying that “their departure took place in good conditions”.

No change in sunflower prices

For oleic sunflower, prices remained stable over the entire period considered (from December 23 to January 7). The market is very calm.

Soybean price progression

As for soybeans, prices gained ground over the period from December 23 to January 7. In recent days, the export sales volumes announced by the USDA have tended to reassure the markets whereas, in previous weeks, fairly weak sales had had the opposite effect. The decline of the dollar against the euro and the appreciation of the price of a barrel of oil have also supported price levels in recent days. It remains to follow Chinese demand in the coming weeks and the first decisions on customs tariffs which will be taken by the new President of the United States, who will take office on January 20, 2025.

No change to fodder peas

Prices for fodder peas and faba beans stagnated over the period from December 23 to January 7.
