The Pikine-Guédiawaye court opened, yesterday Monday, the trial of the seven young people involved in the tragic accident that occurred on December 27 on VDN 3, leading to the death of mechanic Mamadou Konté, aged 19. Main accused, musician Ismaila Camara, risks 5 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and endangering the lives of others.
It all started when Ismaila Camara, aged 21, rented a Ford Taurus vehicle for 80,000 FCFA in order to enjoy the end of the year with his friends, reports L’Observateur. On the day of the tragedy, he gathered his gang made up of six other young people, including three girls, for a trip to VDN 3.
The party quickly turns into drama. Under the influence of suspicious substances, the gang travels at 80-90 km/h on a spare tire. At Hamo 4, the vehicle rolled over and dragged the victim, a mechanic who was on the shoulder, for nearly 300 meters. Mamadou Konté is killed instantly.
Arrested on site, Ismaila Camara admits the facts, but denies having used drugs, continues the newspaper. However, the police discovered in the vehicle “two packets of suspicious medications, a bottle of cellulose diluent, bottles of Sprite used to dilute prohibited substances. »
Urine tests carried out on Ismaila Camara and her male friends revealed the presence of benzodiazepines and ecstasy. Before the bar, the prosecutor requested 5 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 FCFA against Ismaila Camara, recognized as the main author of the tragedy, 6 months in prison and a fine of 500,000 FCFA against his accomplices Amady Ba, Issa Mballo and Souleymane Kane, accused of complicity in manslaughter and drug use and the relaxation of the three girls Ndèye Fatou Diallo, Mbathio Sène and Amy Dièye due to lack of evidence directly implicating them.
The verdict is expected on January 10.
