All the producing wells of the Sangomar oil project, located off the coast of Dakar, have been commissioned since the end of 2024, APA learned on Tuesday from an official source.

Having become an oil producing country six months ago, Senegal had set itself, with its partners, an annual production target of 11.7 million barrels for the Sangomar offshore field. However, the figures revealed by the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines reveal a significantly better performance.

“In 2024, annual production amounted to approximately 16.9 million barrels of crude oil, thus exceeding the initial objective of 11.7 million barrels,” rejoiced the ministry led by Birame Soulèye Diop in a press release published on social networks, providing the monthly production report of the site, operated by the Australian company Woodside Energy.

According to the ministry, all producing wells were connected to production lines by the end of the year. “All wells are now available to be connected to production lines, in accordance with the optimized production schedule of each well, with a view to ensuring a total extraction of 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day,” he said.

For the month of December 2024 alone, Sangomar’s total production amounted to 2.96 million barrels of crude oil. During this period, three cargoes, representing a total volume of 2.94 million barrels, were shipped and sold on the international market, the ministry said.
