During an alcohol test in Wilrijk, Antwerp police discovered 1,444 chocolate bars stolen from a car. The two occupants, staying illegally, were arrested.

Antwerp police found 1,444 chocolate bars stolen during an alcohol test during the end-of-year holidays, they said in a press release on Tuesday.

On December 26, a section of the mobile unit of the Antwerp police carried out an alcohol test on Boomsesteenweg in Wilrijk. A car with two passengers on board clearly wanted to avoid the check and turned around. The duo were caught soon after, although they also tried to flee on foot.

“In the trunk of the car we found a large quantity of chocolate: 361 packages containing a total of 1,444 bars”says the press release. “The two people were staying in the country illegally. They were banned from entering the country and the passenger was the subject of a detention warrant.”

It was later established that the chocolate had been stolen from various supermarkets. The driver was transferred to the Bruges closed center to be repatriated, while his passenger was taken into custody. No one has been arrested in connection with this investigation.
