For three weeks since Cyclone Chido struck Mayotte, causing considerable human and material damage, the French department located in the Indian Ocean is still licking its wounds and drying its tears. Telecommunications networks have not been spared.
The situation “remains fragile”
The operator Orange announces, however, that 29 of the 54 mobile telephone antennas on the island have been put back into service, which ensures coverage of 84% of the territory. But the situation “remains fragile with the hazards linked to the works and power cuts”, specifies the Orange communications department.
To help sustain the structuring network, the operator sent several technicians to the site. Among them are Eddy Hellal and Ludovic Verrier, two Loire technicians from Orange, who took the plane on Monday, initially heading to Reunion then Mayotte by midweek. The two Loire residents will stay for three weeks to support the local technical teams in this essential reconstruction.
