The number of scams in Switzerland is skyrocketing. The Federal Office for Cybersecurity (OFCS) dealt with 63,000 cases in 2024, or 13,000 more than the previous year.
Threatening calls made in the name of the authorities, which are on the rise, represent more than a third of reports, indicates the OFCS on its website. The office received 22,000, compared to 7,193 the previous year.
Several French-speaking cantons have, in recent months, called on the population to be vigilant in the face of scams involving fake police officers.
Faux codes QR
The number of channels used by cybercriminals also increased in 2024. In addition to phone calls, they also send emails, text messages or letters, and even go so far as to stick fake QR codes on real ones, writes the OFCS . He expects an increase in QR code scams in the coming years.
Lottery scams have also increased. Their number tripled from 1025 to 3400 cases. The way of proceeding is always the same: a competition offers to win prizes by answering a few questions.
