No. These are not the images of the next Fast and Furious which were projected at the court of Versailles on Monday January 6, 2025, but those of a madwoman chase between the police and a repeat driver. It started in Guyancourt (Yvelines) and ended with an accident in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine).
By the judges, the defendant was sentenced to two and a half years from prison.
A “Homeric” chase
On January 2, 2025, it was 4 p.m. when police officers on patrol in Guyancourt noticed a Twingo suspected and decide to control it. Obviously, the decision is not to the taste of Gaëtan, 46 years old. He decides to flee even though he holds the license and has not really committed an offense.
A chase then begins that the chairman of the session will describe several times as “Homeric”. The fugitive tries everything to escape the police, even if it means taking gros risks.
Weapon found in car
Broadcast during the hearing, the images captured by the pedestrian cameras on the A86 motorway translate scenes worthy of the saga Taxi : overtaking on the right, zigzags, peaks at 180 km/h. It's all there.
But after 15 kilometers of frantic driving, Gaëtan ended his race in Clamart by hitting five cars stopped at a red light. The driver tries his luck on foot. He is quickly stopped by the tackle of a police officer.
On site, the airbags deployed in the Twingo bear witness to the violence of the impact. The video provided in the file shows the damage without appeal on the five cars concerned. Tested positive, Gaëtan nevertheless assures that he no longer consumes narcotics. To make matters worse, a 9mm pistol was found in the vehicle. We would have given it to him the day before. To do what with it? Mystery.
To the police, he boasts of having challenged them for 15 kilometers:
“She’s sending my Twingo!” With another car I would have made love to you. »
At 46 years old, he is well known to the courts, convicted almost continuously between 1998 and 2020 for acts ranging from refusal to comply to attempted murder. He was recently fined a huge 2.8 million euros by a Court of Appeal.
“There is no desire to send people into the background”
In his defense pleading, Mr. Landon tempers the facts. “The offenses are not questionable, but there is no desire to send people into trouble, and fortunately, the damage is minor. » Having known him for twenty years, the lawyer assures that prison will not be beneficial to the driver.
Before requesting a sentence, the public prosecutor recalls the behavior very dangerous driving the one with a full criminal record. “He persisted and signed off on his criminal actions.” Still in a state of legal recidivism, he will not escape prison.
