Another sign of the pendulum swing which, at least in the short term, is moving away from all-electric vehicles in favor of hybrid models in the automotive landscape, Subaru Canada will market the Forester hybrid a year earlier than expected, therefore for the year- 2025 model. Deliveries to the United States are expected to begin early next summer; there is no timeline yet for Canada.
The Solterra leaves
At the same time, according to what the Driving.ca site reports, the Canadian division of the Japanese manufacturer has decided not to market the 2025 Solterra EV. Subaru Canada will sell the remaining stocks of 2024 models, but that will be all, at least for now .
Subaru Canada has indeed sold more Solterras than ever before in 2024, but the slight increase recorded compared to 2023 (1,616 units from January 1 to September 30, 2024, compared to 1,376 during the first three quarters of 2023) has not enough to convince the manufacturer to continue the adventure. It must be said that Canadian consumers purchased much less Solterra than Toyota bZ4X, the model’s cousin.
In the United States, Subaru announced the 2025 edition of the Solterra, with a substantial price reduction.
The Forester Hybrid is coming
As for the Forester, the new hybrid configuration is expected to hit the market in mid-2025. It will be the brand’s first hybrid model in North America since the Crosstrek Hybrid debuted in 2023. The Forester Hybrid will be based on the new sixth-generation Forester that debuted earlier in 2024.
The Forester Hybrid is expected to be designed using a new configuration of the Subaru Strong Hybrid powertrain, whose electrical components are said to have been borrowed from Toyota. The powertrain, already used with the Crosstrek hybrid sold in Japan, will include Subaru’s trusty 2.5-liter flat-4 engine, combined with a more powerful electric motor and battery than we’ve seen so far in a Subaru hybrid vehicle.
