The horror will have lasted for decades: since the beginning of the 1990s, Hundreds of young teenage girls were raped and sexually exploited in several towns in the North of England including Rotheram, Oxford, Bradfort and Rochdale, mainly by men of British-Pakistani origin.
Facts long silenced by the media and the government, “in the name of living together”according to the British press.
“When police learned that gangs were approaching children at school gates, they hid the information from parents in case it led to 'community tensions,' reports the British daily The Telegraph this Saturday January 4.
“When victims approached the police, in some cases the attackers mysteriously seemed to know.”writes about X the author of the article, Sam Ashworth-Hayes.
Start of media coverage in 2010
It was not until the beginning of the 2010s, with the opening of the trial of a pedophile ring in Rochdale, that the media sphere gradually shed light on these facts.
The boss of Tesla Elon Musk, chosen by Donald Trump to become minister of “governmental efficiency”, today brings the affair to the surface in pointing directly to the responsibility of the current Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.
“In the UK, serious crimes like rape require approval from the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) before the police can charge suspects. Who was in charge of the CPS when gangs of rapists were able to exploit young girls without having to face justice?denounces the billionaire in one of the tweets posted on this subject.
Other personalities, such as the author JK Rowling and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch also called for shedding light on this terrible affair.
Angered by Elon Musk's repeated attacks, the British government responded, through its Minister of Health, Wes Streeting: “I think some of the criticisms Elon Musk has made are errors in judgment and (are) certainly misinformed.”
Thousands of victims
Since the beginning of the 1990s, teenage girls, as young as 12 or 13, were drugged and raped by men who paid for it, in rooms above takeaway shops, says an independent report commissioned by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.
Published in January 2024, the document highlights the “shortcomings” of the police and authorities and demonstrates how the first revelations of possible sexual violence against young girls in the town of Rochdale “were ignored” at least until 2007.
According to this same source, 42 men were convicted of sexual violence against 13 children, but 96 individuals identified still represented a threat.
