The suspect suffers from paranoid episodes and believes he is the victim of a conspiracy. He has already been the subject of another arrest following a similar incident that occurred in April 2024 when he threatened a person with a knife in front of the American embassy. The mother says to herself “helpless” faced with her son’s state of health.

After regaining his senses, Alexander De Croo published a message on X thanking the military police officers “for the efficiency they demonstrated.” “The person armed with a knife has been arrested. I am relieved that no one was injured in the incident. Together with the police, we are closely monitoring the situation.”
VTM NIEUWS journalists were alerted to a threat while they were waiting at 10 rue de la Loi to follow the federal negotiations. Political journalist Karel Lattrez explained to HLN: “It wasn’t an exercise, we had to go immediately.”
16 rue de La Loi is regularly the subject of intimidation through mail containing white powder. This was the case last November when a suspicious powder containing brucine, a toxic substance, was discovered. However, this is the first time that an armed individual has attempted to physically enter the building.
The suspect’s precise motivations are still the subject of an investigation by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
