SENEGAL-SANTE-INFRASTRUCTURES / An emergency medical assistance service (SAMU) inaugurated in Ziguinchor – Senegalese press agency

Ziguinchor, January 6 (APS) – The Minister of Health and Social Action, Ibrahima Sy, and the cooperation program manager of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxdev), Giovanni Tordini, proceeded on Monday to the inauguration of the mobile emergency and resuscitation service in the Ziguinchor region, noted the APS.

“It is with immense pleasure that I come to this beautiful region of natural Casamance, a bearer of hope and development, to inaugurate the mobile emergency and resuscitation service coupled with the regulation and reception center of calls (SMUR/CRRA) of Ziguinchor, one of the most important services of the health system of our country”, declared the minister, in the presence of the governor of Ziguinchor, Mor Talla Tine and other administrative authorities of the region.

Territorial authorities, religious leaders, traditional notables, young people, health stakeholders and a large public attended this inauguration ceremony of the regional branch of the emergency medical assistance service (SAMU) of Ziguinchor located at the Ziguinchor regional hospital.

Ibrahima Sy indicated that the establishment of the Ziguinchor SAMU was achieved with the support of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg which provided funding of more than one billion 86 million CFA francs.

“This call regulation and reception center with its latest generation resuscitation ambulance system called SAMU Ziguinchor, will operate like the national SAMU,” indicated the minister.

He added that this SAMU system will make it possible to strengthen coordination between health posts, health centers and hospitals in the region for rapid treatment of emergencies and in optimal conditions with a fleet of medical ambulances, well-trained staff capable of starting treatment in the ambulance before the patient arrives at the hospital.

Beyond medical transport, said Mr. Sy, “the populations of the Ziguinchor region will be able, in medical emergency situations, to call 1515, to be oriented, accompanied and taken care of very quickly by the staff.

“This SAMU system will also make it possible to strengthen the times and quality of emergency treatment at all levels, both in the community and in health structures. It will contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality, to the reduction of avoidable deaths, linked to a delay in the treatment of emergencies in Ziguinchor,” added the minister.

According to the representative of the Luxembourg embassy and Luxdev program manager in Senegal, Giovanni Tordini, “the Ziguinchor branch is responsible, like the SAMUs in Kaolack, Saint-Louis and Touba, for coordinating the care of emergency and disaster management at the regional level but also those surrounding it, in collaboration with the National Fire Brigade Group and all hospital structures.

“This SAMU in Ziguinchor represents one of the major results in Senegal,” added Giovanni Tordini.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the SAMU in Ziguinchor, Luxembourg handed over to the Minister of Health and Social Action six medical ambulances, five of which are “all-terrain” for the areas covered by the new branch.
