A staple food that everyone has in their cupboards, pasta is generally loved by everyone. But not all brands are equal, as this comparison launched by 60 Million consumers reminds us.

A food that has everything good?

Fresh or dried, pasta is always appreciated when it arrives on our plates. With rice or potatoes, they are the favorite accompaniments to French meals.

As reported by the Yougov.com website, 70% of the population, or 7 out of 10 French people, eat pasta at least once a week. Spaghetti is by far the variety our fellow citizens prefer. Nearly one in 4 people (23%) say they prefer this form.

Next comes penne (14%), fusilli (13%), tagliatelle (13%) and farfalle (10%). The question to ask is whether it is good to eat pasta daily?

Packed with health benefits, it’s actually a cereal to include in your meals for multiple reasons. The latter first of all have a relatively low glycemic index(less than 50). Which makes it a good source of energy.

This is also a good point for the line. Because contrary to popular belief, pasta is not caloric. A 100g portion comes to around 130 calories. Which places them on the same level as rice.

Finally, they are also rich in fiber. These are essential for good transit, contributing to intestinal regularity. As long as you favor their “complete” version, which is more beneficial for the body.

Finally, the advantage of pasta is that it is also an economical commodity. Their relatively low price makes it easy to feed the whole family, without breaking the household budget.

These 5 brands of pasta to favor

In summary, this food seems to have everything good. But on closer inspection, not all commercial pastes are created equal. To enable lovers of taliatelle or even penne to make the best choice, 60 Million Consumers looked into the issue.

The organization tested several brands of pasta to find which were the best on the market. In the end, a list of 5 names managed to emerge at the top of the ranking.

These are the brands Alpina, Barilla, De Cecco, as well as the Fiorini brands from Intermarché and Carrefour original.

The latter in fact have an advantage: they are pasta shaped with a bronze drawing. It is an almost artisanal type of molding which gives the texture of the finished product a more “rough” and “porous” surface. Ideal for allowing sauces to adhere well!

This process, more careful and longer, offers a dough of superior quality. The latter has the advantage of preserving its nutritional properties (fiber, proteins, vitamins and minerals). Which therefore makes it an argument of choice for health.

The brands mentioned above also favor a slow drying mode at low temperature between 48 and 72 hours. This method allows the flavors of the wheat to be better preserved, as well as the natural color of the semolina.

Only moot point. These brands of pasta are a little more expensive than others. As our colleagues from capital.fr note, classic Barilla linguine is sold at €1.19, while “al Bronzo” is €1.89. It’s up to you to make your choice when you next purchase pasta while shopping.
