In Morbihan, places are identified as conducive to l’aquaplaningthe loss of grip of a vehicle on a wet road. Pascal Pelletier, head of center of the West Interdepartmental Roads Directorate (DIRO) of , quotes us two examples on national roads 165 and 166.

On national road 166

Monday January 6, 2025, around 4 a.m., a driver aquaplaned on departmental road 29 in Larmor-Plage. Injured, she was taken care of by the firefighters.

On national roads, the risk of aquaplaning also exists. “We have places that are a little more sensitive than others: au level of Elven on the RN 166 and between Pluneret and Plougoumelen on the RN 165 »advance Pascal Pelletier of the DIRO.

For the first sector, the DIRO tried to “clear it to evacuate as much water as possible” on the RN 166.

But we are at the bottom of a valley. The attraction causes there to be more water at the low point than at the high point. We have turns with slopes on the left and right. When the slope changes, we tend to have more water flow.

On the 10 meters where there is water, the driver is asked to take your foot off the accelerator.

For the Elven sector, the DIRO has not observed an accident linked to rain for more than a year.

The second sector is on the RN 165, at Pont Sal, near the Total station, between Pluneret and Plougoumelen.

Here too, we are on a basin with a road with successive turns to the left and right. When we make the carpets, we try to accentuate the slopes. We are bound by construction standards (radius of the bend).

Road users must relearn how to drive

As the DIRO reminds us, the user must adapt their speed to the traffic conditions. “In rainy weather, you have to reduce your speed. On the RN 165 and the RN 166, in rainy weather, the maximum authorized limit is 100 km/h. This is indeed a maximum limit. With heavy rain, you have to reduce your speed even more. Today, the user no longer drives, he drives. He would have to learn to drive again! », exclaims Pascal Pelletier.

“And if you have your eyes glued to your phone, you won’t see the puddle,” he adds.

A good reminder to avoid being trapped!
