You may have spotted it in the Cherbourg sky, a large crane has been rising for weeks in the Maupas sector.
Located between Place Jean-Moulin (also under renovation) and La Brèche, national circus center, a building is currently being renovated and extended. This is the medical-social center, known as Cherbourg Val de Sairebelonging to the Department of Manche which manages eight others in the territory, including one in the Provinces, also in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
Social action represents 57% of the annual budget of the Manche department
You may not know it, but social action is the main mission of the departments. In the Channel, this sector represents 57% of your annual budget.
It is therefore in the permanent committee of the Department, that of April 14, 2023 precisely, that this major construction site was decided.
Axel Fortin-Larivièreone of the Cherbourg departmental advisors, was the rapporteur of the deliberation which presented “the final preliminary project file (APD) established by the project management team, whose representative is the Nord Sud Architecture firm, in consultation with our services.”
“Our primary objective was to design a functional building, meeting the technical and environmental objectives as well as the surfaces expressed in the program. We have chosen a rational but functional and efficient design, prioritizing as much as possible a compact construction to meet environmental and economic objectives both for construction and in operation,” explained the project management team. She specified at the time that the project was necessarily subject to inflation in the prices of raw materials.
Two years of construction
Unanimously by the 26 departmental councilors present or represented, the standing committee of the departmental council approved the final preliminary project file, on the basis of a concrete structure (option 2, the cheapest), retaining options on the existing building.
The service maintained
The work is now underway. It began precisely “on July 22, 2024 with the preparation period”, indicates the Department of Manche.
It is split into two phases : the first is theextension of the medical-social center, “planned over a period of 16 months”; the second is the “ restructuring of the existing, planned over a period of eight months”. This allows the service to “stay operationalon site for the duration of the work. »
The existing surface area was 1,359 m². The surface area of the extension is 1,461 m². The building will therefore more than double in size .
” The end of workis estimated forAugust 2026», Informs the Department of Manche.
