Saint-Louis, Jan 5 (APS) – The Saint-Louis High Court (north) will pronounce its verdict on Monday in the trial of the 80 people arrested following violence that marred the passage of the caravan of ” Sam Sa Kaddu”, an opposition coalition, in this city in the north of the country, during the legislative electoral campaign last November.
The defendants, security officers of the “Sam Sa Kaddu” caravan, which was in the running for the legislative elections of November 17, are being prosecuted for “robbery with violence, assault, illegal carrying of weapons and violation of the orders of October 22 of the Minister of the Interior.
They are suspected of having attacked traders who chanted the name of Ousmane Sonko, the head of the ruling party list, as their caravan passed. Serious injuries were recorded among the ranks of traders at the Sor market in Saint-Louis
The prosecutor had requested sentences ranging from two to five years in prison against them and requested the release of some of the 80 defendants, who appeared on Monday, December 2, 2024 in a special hearing.
