SENEGAL-PRESSE-REVUE / The Aoua Bocar Ly controversy and other topics highlighted – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Jan 6 (APS) – The controversy sparked in certain circles by the appointment of sociologist Aoua Bocar Ly-Tall to the college of new members of the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA) is one of the topics in sight in the Monday delivery of the daily press.

The appointment of this sociologist is a “black task” which has put the Pastef (power) party “in turmoil”, writes the daily Yoor-Yoor. “After the very controversial appointment of Samba Ndiaye to the position of chairman of the board of directors of SN-HLM, notes the same newspaper, a new promotion of a personality very hostile to Pastef and its leader Ousmane Sonko creates a general outcry “.

The news notes that this appointment “is not to the taste of many Pastef officials and activists”, who “vigorously protested against the decision of the head of state”. “A new open distrust from his party comrades, which the head of state faces, whose reaction is being watched. Will it be uncompromising as in the Samba Ndiaye case? », asks this publication.

“Pastef in turmoil”, reports the daily L’As, according to which several Pastef activists are struggling to contain their anger after the appointment of Aoua Bocar Ly-Tall among the 8 new members of the CNRA. L’As underlines that due to this situation, “the State finds itself at the heart ofanother fury from Pastef activists which makes the Republic tremble.”

“Unleashed pro-Pastef” columnists and activists

“While he has only been at the head of the supreme judiciary for 10 months, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is already facing challenges within his own party”, due to “certain decisions, particularly on calls for candidacies but also and above all its nominations,” writes Walfquotidien, displaying: “Bronca against Diomaye”.

Les Echos reports that it was ultimately the president of the Pastef party, Ousmane Sonko, who stepped up to calm the unleashed pro-Pastef activists and columnists, according to the newspaper. “It is not because we are Pastef activists that we can threaten or exert pressure on the head of state or the Prime Minister,” reacted the leader of the ruling party, quoted by L’Observateur .

“Following the controversy after the appointment of Ms. Aoua Bocar Ly-Tall to the CNRA, the president of the Pastef party reacted, on Sunday evening, to provide details and clear the Head of State of any bad assessment”, we read in the columns of Le Soleil. The newspaper adds that Ousmane Sonko “also called on the activists of his political party to understand the issues surrounding the management of power”.

“Sonko stands as a shield for President Diomaye Faye. It cuts off the flow of Pastefian criticisms towards the head of state and reframes their authors,” also notes Vox Populi. If the leader of Pastef admitted “a casting error, he reframed the activists and people who made disproportionate comments on this affair”, indicates the daily Enquête.

The exit of the LDCs, “a poisoned gift”

“We can make mistakes but not mistakes,” assures Ousmane Sonko in comments reported by the daily Libération, which reproduces on its front page another statement from the Pastef party leader: “The threats must stop.” “We do not threaten a president,” he insists on the front page of the newspaper Le Quotidien.

The daily newspapers also return to the announcement of Senegal’s removal from the list of least developed countries, “a significant step forward” for the country, but which “is accompanied by loss of commercial and financial advantages”, explains L’Observateur , pointing to “a poisoned gift”.

The newspaper considers that a “strategic transition is necessary to preserve and strengthen the achievements of economic and social development”, while “debates and rivalries are intensifying to take credit for this success”. Tribune, for example, makes the same observation by emphasizing that the Alliance for the Republic (APR), Macky Sall’s party, “attributes the paternity” of this progress to the former president.

The government, for its part, “tempers” by the voice of the Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs. The head of Senegalese diplomacy “speaks of the start of a process and asks to avoid any confusion”, reports Rewmi daily.

“The announcement of Senegal’s withdrawal from the category of least developed countries (LDC) sparked a reaction from the Alliance for the Republic (APR), which welcomes it as a culmination of public policies initiated by the former head of state Macky Sall. However, summarizes Le Soleil, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that this is just the start of a process that could last five years.
